Helping Spread the Word

Ok, so I'm currently lacking words for the water I'm about to tread. So I will send you to my bloggy friend Laura. She's written two posts on sex trafficking that I think shed pretty good light on the horror that is a world-wide menace...there isn't a good word for it. It is horrible. Wicked. Corrupt. A complete and utter abuse of human life. You can read her posts here and here.

I was made aware of it when some people I knew started talking about how they knew someone in my home town who had been a victim of it. She was rescued and because she was only in it for such a short time didn't go back.

But the reality is, many women who are victims of that horror go back. It is all they know. And the fear of what might happen if they run wins out to the desire to be free of it.

You should read this newspaper article.

And though I really don't know what else to say, I would urge you to learn more about this. Figure out how you can help, even if it's becoming a voice to begin spreading the word.

I googled "sex trafficking houston". This is what comes up. The newspaper articles are recent you guys. This is not just happening on someone else's home front. And even if it was, we should still raise our voices together. Because human life is made in the image of God. And as such, it is sacred. That which is sacred should not be treated this way.

The End It Movement is trying to collaborate to raise awareness, unite voices, and help organizations that are in action to stop this.

Please, don't turn a blind eye to this. Help is needed. You could be that voice.

In Honor of Newtown...

...I will be participating in the "Blogger Day of Silence" this coming Tuesday. I'm repasting the the post that Meg at O. is Me wrote. I was made aware of it by Melissa at Little Mrs. Married. Please, if you so desire, spread the word and join up with us. There is also a way to donate to help those families who were directly affected by this horrible tragedy. Here's Meg's post:

To the Blog World and Anyone Else who Wants to Help,

Yesterday, tragedy struck so many of us in ways we did not foresee. An elementary school and small town in Connecticut was shattered by a mass shooting. We knew we wanted to help. As a side note, I would like to take this time to thank Neely and Michelle for helping organize and be so quick to come together and think of something that we could do as a blogging community. After some planning, we came up with this:

[side note: you can visit Meg's blog to get the HTML. She's also happy to e-mail you the HTML code to be posted, but as I was short on time I wanted to go ahead and get this up]

On Tuesday, December 18th, there will be a blogger day of silence. We will post the button and that's it. Please try to not post anything else that day if possible.

We are also raising money that will go to an organization in the memory of this tragedy. The organization is calledThe Newtown Family Youth and Family Services. Here is the official description of the support service we are donating to:

"Newtown Youth and Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.

ANY DONATIONS MADE TO NEWTOWN YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE DONATED DIRECTLY TO THOSE EFFECTED BY THE SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SHOOTING."

Please visit THIS PAGE to make your donation.

We can't imagine how they must be feeling, especially this close to the holidays. We would love for you to spread the word on your own blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Let's make a difference and use blogging in a positive way. Thank you in advance for participating.

Love,
The Blog World

p.s. Please share this post with your followers! If you leave me a comment on this post asking for the HTML to post on your own blog, I will be happy to reply via email and send it to you.
