Maybe You Know

So I want to write, but I have no clue what to write.

I'm staring at the computer screen blankly. And it's staring back.

Nothing.

Absolutely. 100%. n.o.t.h.i.n.g.

Then I realize that maybe I have nothing because God wants more of my time. And writing a blog post isn't how He wants it. But before I sign off, an idea pops into my head: ask in a post.

You see, for a long time I've felt like I'm barely scratching the surface of what God can and will teach me through His word. But I consistently feel like I don't have the tools and/or know how to dig deeper. Like I'm missing a key element to help me get there. (You know, kind of how when you do a study by someone who knows where to go to learn back story behind the history of when the book was written and what not and...well, for me I think, "What books did they use to get the history? To really dig deep so you can get a more complete understanding?")

So, if you have some great resources that help dig into history and help with giving a complete picture to scripture, would you share?

Comment on this post.

E-mail.

Maybe you have found different tools that help you study better that you're willing to share with me.

I would love it if you did :)

  1. I don't have anything for understanding the history and such in the Bible. But one of the tools I like to use to help me search for things, quickly find different translation, look words up in the Hebrew and Greek, etc is blueletterbible.com.

I always like to remember this verse as well...
    John 14:26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The Holy Spirit will teach you. :) Yes, books, tools and such are helpful but your greatest help of all is the Holy Spirit!!

(Ps... I had to use blueletterbible to search for that verse so I could put the reference. :))

  3. Hahaha - i just read this to my husband (the main part of it) & i finished with, "would you share?" & he said, "I WILL!" LOL. ...Ok, maybe you had to be there. :)

He is BIG into studying the history of the Bible- in fact he's running around now trying to find another one he's thinking of to tell you about. He is passionate about biblical history b/c it helps you SO MUCH to understand the Bible on a deeper level. I have to be honest... i haven't studied even CLOSE to the degree that he has. But he has shared so much w/ me. And it's SO interesting and life changing.

    So he suggested:
Church History in Plain Language by Bruce L. Shelley.
Bible History/Old Testament by Alfred Edersheim
Jesus The Messiah by Alfred Edersheim

And i would like to add: The Dictionary of Biblical Imagery. This is another book of his that i have flipped through & read parts of often. It's very interesting. :)
